3x3

The exercise 3x3 was an activity designed to push the student away from the "say cheese!" method of photography. Instead the idea was to become aware of our surroundings and use the camera as an extension of the body, thinking outside of the generic, head on photograph. The title 3x3 refers to the photos taken. Three photos were taken close to the subject, one high, one mid and one low. Three photos were taken at a medium distance from the subject again with one high, one mid and one low. Three photos were taken at a farther distance from the subject with the same heights as the last two distances. In order to accomplish this task I explored a small portion of the area around Drew and found objects, places or scenes that I felt lent themselves to the criteria for the photo shoot. For instance a raised parking sign drew my attention and as it was attached to a pole well above my head it naturally lent itself to a photo that would be taken from a low angle looking up. I continued this for some time until I had taken approximately fifty photos and I have selected the nine that I believe represent the 3x3 assignment best and posted them below.

  1. I think that some of your photos "rule of thirds" point of view isn't that obvious, but some of them really articulate the purpose of the assignment well.

  4. I agree with Sasha, some of your photos are not so strong for this assignment, but I like the way you focus on very unique things
